Insulin Resistance & Prediabetes

Insulin Resistance Deep Dive

Often medical providers recommend losing weight and cutting out carbs/sugars as a way to prevent diabetes. Not only is this approach difficult and unnecessary, it may not be helpful and can often harm your relationship to food. The reality is medical providers do not typically have the time to explain what is happening in your body and all the ways to intervene. This is where I come in! I have a one-hour webinar covering everything you need to know about insulin resistance and pre-diabetes.

When Health Care Professionals Miss the Mark

My experience of people with prediabetes is that health care practitioners often provide no information at all or offer too much overly simplified and unhelpful advice (like cut out sugar or lose weight). They put the blame on the person and their choices. As a result, people with prediabetes end up searching the internet for answers and find themselves confused and afraid to eat.

Diabetes is a chronic, progressive disease, meaning it doesn't go away and it gets worse over time. But, having pre-diabetes does not mean you are destined to get diabetes. About 25% of people with pre-diabetes will get diabetes within 5 years, and up to 70% will eventually get diabetes. That means, most people have more than 5 years to take action, and that action can delay diabetes even longer.

Food For Thought:

• Managing the factors within your control can be helpful in preventing or delaying diabetes. Knowing what to do is empowering!

• Type 2 diabetes has a strong genetic component. So, you can "do everything right" and still get it. And even if you aren't "doing everything right," it's still not your fault if you get diabetes.

Free State Nutrition Presents: Insulin Resistance Deep Dive

With all of this in mind, I have created a webinar on Insulin Resistance and Prediabetes. This 1-hour class provides the education people with pre-diabetes need to understand what is actually happening in their bodies, whether weight loss will help, what medications might be offered, and what lifestyle factors impact insulin function. Participants will walk away knowing what actions they can take to help get their blood sugars back under control.

Have you noticed something missing? I have pretty strong feelings about weight loss or weight "management." I don't fault anyone for wanting to change their body or feeling like they need to for their health. At the same time, I will not be part of that mission.

Find out why I don't assist my clients with intentional weight loss by watching the video to the right. If you'd like to read about the research backing up my stance, check out this article from the data guru herself, Ragen Chastain.
